Today after a long night out at 4 am I decided to take the subway back home. I had never before ridden in the very first cart and stand up in the front door looking through the window as there is always someone who is already there. Tonight I did and it was a unique experience.
My cart was almost empty except for 2 or 3 homeless people and there was almost no noise. I took over the window, placed my hands to feel what the real driver sees and I saw each station pass by. I saw the rails, the garbage, the late night workers, the water leaking, the pipes....it was something that I had always wanted to do and it was quiet a different ride.
