When I first started this blog I thought I should do a weekly review of the perfumes and fragrances that were launched to the market, but when my Fragrance teacher informed me that last year 360 new fragrances were introduced to the market I backed out and went for a broader scope than just perfumes so that we would not get bored. My passion for fragrances remains.
The trend in the high-end perfume world is to launch not one, nor two but a full collection of them under one concept. Some might be more masculine or more feminine that the rest but the idea behind it is for you to purchase the entire collection so that your bathroom becomes a retail counter. These new select collections will not be sold at any location, they will serve as powerful drivers to bring clients in into key stores and select retailers. I will not mention prices so that I do not make mistakes and you are not shocked.
First we saw how Tom Ford launched his collection with 12 scents targeting mainly men. Each fragrance is sold in two sizes 100ml or 500ml. The sober bottle in amber glass with round cap is very powerful, masculine and hard to let go when finished.
What is most relevant? The bottles. Both different, both beautiful
What I would change: Names are boring and forgettable, except for two.
My favorite: "Noir de Noir"
Then we saw Chanel with their line called "Les Exclusifs" with ten fragrances, some old and some new. Each fragrance has been named after something related to Coco's life, from her "Bel Respiro" house to her asian collection of "Coromandels".
What is most relevant? Nice story for each name
What would I change: All fragrances should had been new
My favorite: Chanel No.18
Recently we were surprised with Thierry Mugler's "Mirroir, Mirroir!" collection of five scents, each called after a feeling: Mirror of desires, Mirror of secrets, etc
What is most relevant: How this house only launches extremely good fragrances
What would I change: I am not sure if the house of Mugler is strong enough to successfully launch a collection. I would stick to one, the best.
My favorite: Mirror of Desires
