Coming from a country where fruit is extremely cheap, a few weeks ago I sawa street vendor selling FIGS (which I adore) and next to the small basket a sign read $1.00. I took the full basket and handed the vendor a one dollar bill. He laughed as EACH FIG WAS ONE DOLLAR!. HAHAHAHA!!!! No eating figs in NYC...for now.
